Studio Brief 5: A.D A.D Print Collaboration

A.D.A.D. Collaboration

B R I E F
Create illustrations based on the themes of animals in folklaw. These will then be passed on to Aggie Davies, an Illustration student at Portsmouth. She will apply her working practice to these illustrations. She works in a more print based medium and is really interested in that process. I love her work and I think it will work great with my own illustrations to add depth, visual interest and atmosphere to the work.

Yet to be confirmed. However I really like the tone of voice of the artists work I am collaborating with so it would be cool to follow in that and it would work really well with the content of our project looking at animals in folk law. Slightly disturbing/magical.

Follow this link to see some of her work...

We will individually research and then decide together the specific characters/scenes or stories in the folk law that we want to focus on in our illustrations.

I will need to discuss with her the simplicity of my images and what media would be best for me to create them in as well as size and specific content of each image. Also paper must be considered seeing as it will be then used to print on. I will also have to consider how to give her the illustrations, either by face to face or by post... if by post I must ensure I use a method that wont allow for any bending or crumpling of the paper, or smudging of the illustrations etc.

Media...
I was researching for another brief where I am investigating into paper cuts and I suddenly thought that really carefully crafted papercuts like the one below would would really well with one of Aggie's atmospheric printed backgrounds and would link to our animals in folk law theme, especially as I could include text, like in the below image, that could be carefully selected/quoted from the folk law tale/myth etc. I spoke to Aggie about it and she loved the idea so I will continue to investigate this brief using this media.

Create a set of illustrations (yet to decide on size and amount or media) to then send to Aggie Davies for her to work on using print methods. Will need to decide on how to split them between us/what to do with them.. sell them? exhibit them? use them in a book? We may want to create at least 2 of each print in order to make two books, one for each of us.

A) A set of illustrations (drawings most likely) to be sent on to the other artist.
B) The finished product will be a set of finished prints.
