Studio Brief 3: Q&A Saturdays

Q&A Saturdays

B R I E F
To post on blog (Tumblr and embed to Blogger) weekly, every Saturday, a short Q&A featuring someone that has inspired me that week. No more than ten questions; best at about 5 in order to keep it short and sweet, as interviewees are more likely to answer the questions and the audience is more likely to read it. I will be providing my own illustrations for each either a portrait of the interviewee or an illustration of something that symbolises them. I will also be providing examples of their work or links.

An online resource for inspiration and a set of illustrations portraying a huge range of content, because of the difference in interviewees. There will be a consistence throughout however as all of the work will be created in a small amount of time and for the purpose of representing the individual in question, it will be quite a simple illustration in comparison to other projects.

The tone of voice will depend on the interviewee and what they stand for. I am assuming that I will be able to get hold of a photograph reference of their face so it should be a portrait alongside other key elements in their working life/passions. I want to use a limited colour scheme for these and lots of negative space as the background as this will create a clean and simple look to the blog post and will allow the illustration to merge with the blog background, with the text underneath.

The audience will be anyone looking at my blog; so it will start off quite limited. I will be using hashtags so anyone searching for them will be able to find it. My blog is focussed around creativity, I find my inspiration in dance, music, performance/theatre, fashion, painting, films, adverts etc… so my interviewees will be reflective of this, and so the target audience will be quite broad as I will cover a range of disciplines. Hopefully the people I will be featuring will share it on their social media platforms so that will increase the audience. So the intended audience is broad, yet the actual audience will probably be a lot smaller depending on how successful the social media links go.

So the platform I will use will be my social media platforms; Blogger, Tumblr, Instagram, Facebook etc. These will all be through my A Wasp in a Wig pages, but I will be sharing those links on my personal Facebook etc too in order to increase audience. The blog posts will be on a separate page Q&A Saturday on my Tumblr, they will all have 5 - 10 questions, mostly following the theme of their creative practice but because each individual is different, the questions will be tailored to their specific interests, however I would like to make it interactive by embedding videos etc. I can do this by asking their favourite music videos/adverts/favourite scene from a film/childhood picture book/childhood programme aka the moomins/favourite childhood toy etc. I think this audience interaction will provide a lot more interest to the post. I also will embed or link their own work/blogs.

I need to utilise the creative people already around me that inspire me; peers at the college, tutors, peers from my Art and Design Foundation course at Oxford Brookes University, and other peers I know that are successful in their field such as music etc. However I also think I should push myself to contact other artists and individuals that inspire me! A quick email asking a few questions (aka five) and then perhaps asking to draw a specific photograph or just draw an already existing one found on their social media.

Could send emails to bloggers and see if they would answer 5 questions as this would provide a larger audience and they may also share on their own social media platforms.

Ensure that this only takes a couple of hours per week. I will dedicate some time at the beginning of the week to gather the chosen information, the Q&A together on a word document and spend a couple of hours on the illustration so that it is done before friday. Then I will just keep them ready to post on the saturday morning. I will record and set myself a list of people to ask and have them lined up (with questions already asked as soon as possible) as much in advance as possible in order to keep to my weekly posts and allow for problems to happen, aka someone taking a long time to reply. It will be better to have too many Q&A's than too little.

A weekly blog post to my Tumblr: A Wasp in a Wig blog.
This will be linked to my Q&A Saturday page.
It will include a Q&A, of 5-10 questions, to a chosen creative that has inspired me that week.
It will also include one of my own illustrations depicting the individual.
This post will be shared on my professional A Wasp in a Wig social media platforms, e.g. Instagram, Facebook, Blogger etc.
